Comedian Tanmay Bhatt, actors Rakhi Sawant, Uorfi Javed, Siddhant Chaturvedi are among the many celebrities who have reportedly been summoned by Maharashtra cyber police in connection with an FIR that was registered over Ranveer Allahbadia's 'filthy' and 'disturbing' question on comedian Samay Raina's show India's Got Latent. A controversy erupted on an episode of India's Got Talent when Ranveer Allahbadia asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?"
As reported by The Indian Express, a senior officer confirmed that among those summoned included popular YouTubers, comedians and influencers who had participated in India's Got Latent show as judges.
Sanmati Pandey, 38, a Santacruz resident, who is also a subscriber of Raina's show, had reportedly lodged a complaint. Following Sanmati's complaint, the Maharashtra cyber police registered an FIR against Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, show's creator Samay Raina and others for allegedly creating obscene content and making it available on YouTube.
The police invoked Section 67 (transmission of obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act and sections 79, 196, 296, 299 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The cops have booked 30 people so far.
Meanwhile, Samay Raina has deleted all videos of his show from his YouTube channel. On February 12, Samay took to his social media handles and shared his thoughts on the ongoing controversy He wrote, "Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India's Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you."
