Thalapathy Vijay's latest film, GOAT (Greatest of All Time), made an impressive debut at the box office today. The movie, which was highly anticipated, earned around Rs 55 crore on its opening day in India. This strong start makes it one of the top five Kollywood films to open in India with over Rs 50 crore, and it is Vijay's third film to achieve this milestone.
As per the reports, in Tamil Nadu alone, GOAT has already collected over Rs 30 crore, bringing it into a prestigious group of Vijay's blockbuster openings. It joins the ranks of his previous hits, including Sarkar, Beast, and Leo. With Rs 35 crore, Beast currently holds the record for the highest first-day earnings. We'll have to wait for the final numbers to see if GOAT beats this record.
As reported by entertainment news portal Pinkvilla, Thalapathy Vijay's strong performance at the Tamil Nadu box office is noteworthy. Despite the film's new 9 AM showtimes, no other star has managed to cross Rs 25 crore on opening day, like Vijay did last year with Leo and again with GOAT in 2024. While Leo was part of the "Lokesh Cinematic Universe," GOAT stands as a testament to Vijay's star power alone, with the movie's music not being a significant factor in its opening.
The film also had a terrific start in Karnataka, grossing over Rs 9 crore, and did well in Kerala with Rs 6 crore. However, the movie's performance in the Telugu states was not as strong, which has been a point of criticism. This might be due to the film's older score not resonating well with audiences there.
Overall, goat has shown impressive results in key Tamil markets like Bengaluru, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The Telugu states, though less impactful, still contributed to the film's success. Vijay's latest release proves once again his dominance at the box office and continues his legacy of blockbuster hits.

In his second-to-last film before joining politics, with GOAT, Thalapathy Vijay has once again displayed his incredible popularity and box office appeal. Venkat Prabhu viewed the film as a special project, serving as a farewell to Vijay's career prior to his foray into politics. Venkat Prabhu described working on the film as a "wonderful experience" and mentioned that he treated it as a celebration.
