John Abraham is basking in the success of his latest theatrical release, The Diplomat. The film, directed by Shivam Nair, is based on true events and has been garnering appreciation for the story and performances. John, in particular, is getting a lot of love for his intense, nuanced performance of a diplomat. He has always excelled in intense roles especially in the geo-political genre and The Diplomat is no different. But this is just the start of the year and we were eager to know what John has in store for us next.
So when the OG heartthrob sat down with us for the latest episode of Spotlight With Smrity, we asked him about what he has next, "I have Tehran next, it is produced by Dinesh Vijan (Maddock Films). I don't know when it's going to release but we are ready with the film. That has little more action and is hopefully gripping and I hope people take my word for it this time at least."
When asked if we can expect any sequel to his hit franchises, John Abraham was quick to reply, "I would love to do a Force. There is nothing finalized but if you ask me what I would love to do, I would say Force and Garam Masala. Those are two sequels I would really love to do at this point in time."
On why he has picked just these two films from his wonderful filmography, John shared, "Garam Masala is a cult comedy film and Akshay Kumar and I have been wanting to do it for the longest time. And there is nothing more beautiful than making people laugh. But it's got to be very funny like the first." About Force, he said, "I feel Force is the father of all action films. That's where the true action hero of the 2000s came from. So I would like to make Force happen again."
When asked if he would like for any of his previous works to re release in the theatres today, since that is the hot trend in Bollywood, John quipped, "I wish we make good films where cinemas don't feel the need for a re-release. Why are they re-releasing films? Because there's no one coming into cinema halls. In fact, one or two of my films are re-releasing I heard, now do I want them to be re-released? Honestly the answer is I don't care. I want to make new films that get the audiences in. I am not a big re-release fan and I choose to believe that the audiences will come in for good new films, rather than a rehashed all over again."
The actor also hopes that the film industry goes back to the basics when putting in place all the aspects of making a film, with the story at its heart, to ensure the golden period at the box office. John Abraham's The Diplomat is playing in the theatres, go watch it to witness a gripping and impactful retelling of a real life story and superlative performances from John and the lead actress Sadia Khateeb.
